I am quite ashamed of myself. It´s just around a year ago that I realized that we are rapidly ruining our climate. This will have catastrophic consequences for all of us, for some sooner, for others a bit later. I am ashamed of myself, because I should and could have known better.
I am deeply worried about the future of my son and my granddaughter.
The Corona pandemic shows, how fragile our way of life is. People a dying, economies are crumbling. The population of planet earth is asked or forced to stay at home….as far as they have a home. All of this just happened, quite suddenly it happened. But it didn´t happen out of the blue. It was precisely predicted by scientists. But we did nothing about it.
The Corona crisis is nothing against the climate catastrophe. Corona will go, as soon we have found a vaccine against it.
The climate change is here to stay, and it is hard to believe, that mankind will change its way of life to save the planet for generations to come.
The last few years the average temperatures in Germany were increasing rapidly. Forests are dying, trees are dying, harvests are poor because of the lack of water. In Australia, last year, huge territories were burning like hell. It was apocalyptic. We are approaching apocalypse. I am sure you won´t believe my words. I am sounding like a fanatic preaching doomsday.
But I am not a fanatic. Change is already here. Scientists tell us since around 40 years what will happen if we don´t change our way of life.
As they did with Corona.
Mankind is running out of time. I don´t want my granddaughter to live in an apocalyptic world.
Below I have some excerpts from a book by Maja Göpel, called “Unsere Welt neu denken. Eine Einladung” (Rethinking our world. An invitation).
She talks about our way of life. We organize our economy in a way, that might have been o.k in former times, when less people lived on earth and we didn’t consume as much of our planets resources as we do now.
The happy few use up the resources of all mankind. The poor suffer. We don´t give a damn about them.
I would have no problem with the wealth of a happy few, if there wouldn´t be the many having not enough money for food, healthcare and education. In this context the wealth of the few is a perversion and an attack against humanity.
